If we don’t change, we don’t grow

Oh my god! I just quit my job! Ok, now that the histrionics are over…

My current technology

In the spirit of leaving one big corporation for another, I am using their favourite type of image – the stock photo.

Yes, I handed in my resignation on Monday and I am leaving Investors Group at the end of next week. It’s hard to believe, but I’ve been with IG for over 10 years. I’m going to miss the people I worked with on the web team and throughout the company dearly, but it was time for a change. A fun ride while it lasted.

In December, I will begin my new position as the Senior E-Media Communications Specialist at Great-West Life. I’m super excited to try something new; even though I’m going to GWL (IG’s sister company) and doing a similar role, it still seems fun and fresh to me. Someday I will get that dream job of swimming in shark cages, but until then, bring me your horribly formatted, passive, boring and way too long web content and I will take a bite out of it. Was that too cheesy? Yeah, thought so.

“For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.” Steve Jobs

An act of kindness

My awesome coworker, Jennifer Cloutier, just made me these feather earrings after hearing I lost my old pair. She rocks!

Jen creates some really beautiful, modern jewelry that you can find at her Toxie Designs shop on Etsy.

White Orchid

For over a week I haven’t had a clue what to paint next. I was thinking weathered tree knots or rocks on the beach; something with a lot of texture. Well, as you can see, what I ended up doing was the complete opposite of that.

I decided to try a simple, white orchid after a fellow Society6 artist, Jacqueline Maldonado, mentioned that my Calla Lilies had an O’Keefe feel. Ok, first off, that’s a HUGE compliment! And secondly, Georgia O’Keefe’s flowers are some of my favourite paintings. This is my first try at an orchid and it certainly will not be my last. Hmm, maybe a series is in the works.
