Was leaving Shoppers today and glanced at the Winnipeg Free Press (don’t worry, I’m still not reading the local news yet). On the cover was a picture of Waldo the grizzly bear from the local zoo. He has passed away at the ripe old age of 36.
I have some fond memories of him when I visited the zoo as a kid with my family, and then later, when I worked there for a couple of years. I would see him every day I worked. I mostly remember him sitting on his rock and pacing back and forth. I always wished he had more space to roam, but when you run a zoo that’s free to the public for so many years, I guess you can’t expect much expansion.
Bye Waldo, hope you have tons of room to roam now.
