Ok, so we are getting pret-tay darn good at this Harry Potter Night (HPN) thing. For the third instalment, we brought our A-game. I think we leave each party with our creative juices flowing for the next. And the great thing is that there is no limit to Wizarding World ideas for drinks and snacks.
This time, instead of letting the tea leaves decide, we chose to watch Chamber of Secrets. It was a no-brainer after we saw that most of the snacks we made were from the 2nd book. We even had our own Moaning Myrtle join the party. Laurenda’s daughter Gillian hung out with us, enjoyed some non-alcoholic Polyjuice Potion, and recited most of the lines of the movie. She was a hoot! But she drank so much Polyjuice that she actually turned into Moaning Myrtle. Don’t believe me? Just check out the pic below.
HPN III treats
- With the swish and flick of her broken wand, Lindsay conjured up some succulent slugs, which tasted much better than Ron would make you think. Oh, Ron. She also mixed up a mean Mad-Eye Moody’s Wandering Eye Watermelon Fizz that we downed so quickly we forgot to snap a photo. Who took their eye off the ball on that one?
- Laurenda found a few of Moaning Myrtle’s hairs around the house and added them to the most delicious Polyjuice Potion ever made. (The trick is to add raspberries, lots and lots of raspberries.) She also had help from the grumpiest house elf around to make Kreacher’s Midnight Snacks and a few Crabbe & Goyle’s “Knock ’em out and shove ’em in a broom closet” cupcakes.
- I put together some peppy Pink Pygmy Puff’s with dried nettles. I also drove my Ford Anglia all the way to The Burrow to pluck some Garden Goodies. Unfortunately, I didn’t do a thorough de-gnoming and there were a few right-nasty garden gnomes buried under the vegetable patch.
Until next time, my fellow Potterheads…
Oh, and if you have a fun idea for a snack or cocktail, please let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear your creative concoctions. The more Snape-themed ones, the better.
