Well, hello friends, it’s been awhile, hasn’t it? Sometimes I think I could be a decent travel blogger and then reality hits when I realize it’s been four months and I’ve hardly written a lick on here. Life happens.
But on a particularly steamy afternoon in early January in Lahaina, life was good. So, sooo good. It started out rough though. Let’s just say me and my family were not in peak condition when we arrived for our ATV adventure with Kahoma Ranch Tours. (Maybe it was the many pops imbibed the night before. Maybe. 😵) The heat, mixed with an insanely rough ride up the mountain in an old van that should have been retired decades ago, made for queasy af stomachs and irritable attitudes.
So, that was the start of our highly anticipated ATV tour. Not great, huh? Doesn’t seem fun, right? OMG, so wrong! What happened next was two hours of rocking, rollicking, bouncing fun. We went up, we went down, we almost went sideways. And we looked like badasses the entire time.
After a quick ATV orientation with our guide, we put on our helmets, glasses and bandanas and took off into the hills of West Maui. My sister drove, I captured the images, we both laughed and shrieked and laughed some more. We had an absolute blast together. And so did the rest of our fam jam. We took a few breaks during the ride to taste freshly cut pineapple and look out at the most stunning of views.
This is not your typical Maui experience of lazy afternoons, smooth beaches and chill vibes. It is brash and exhilarating. We left covered in dust — so much dust — with huge smiles on our dirty faces and an amazing family experience we’ll never forget.
So yeah, life happens. And sometimes it happens in the most enjoyable way possible. 🤙🤙
Disclaimer: The videos do not do the tour justice. The camera shake settings on the phone are way too good. It makes the ride look 80% smoother than it is and 50% slower than it is.
