On our last full day in Maui, we woke up extremely early to drive to Lahaina and take the first whale watching cruise of the day. It didn’t disappoint. Only five minutes in, we had a whale swim right beside the boat.
Captain Tiffany said the whale was “mugging” the boat. It looked so cool passing directly under us. I got a tiny pang of regret to not be a marine biologist researching these magnificent creatures for a living.
We found quite a few whales after that. We even watched one humpback slapping his fin against the water for awhile. Not sure what he was doing, maybe calling up a lady?
